This paper reviews the applications of machine learning and Internet of Things (IoT) in predicting and monitoring outdoor air pollution. It discusses the combination of monitoring sensors and input features used in these applications. The review also identifies the major limitations in the current literature, such as lack of coverage, diversity of data, and inclusion of context-specific features. It further proposes future research directions and highlights the practical implications of these applications in healthcare, urban planning, global synergy, and smart cities.
