The article presents a study on the use of Augmented Reality (AR) in the management of large multi-agent human-robot teams. The authors developed AugRE, an AR-based framework that allows users to localize and communicate with 50+ autonomous agents. This technology is particularly useful in fields like defense, search and rescue, and first-response where it can improve data collection and team safety. The study found that users need the ability to supervise, command, and control these agents via the AR headset. The framework also allows users to interact with both close line-of-sight and remote non-line-of-sight autonomous agents. The study indicates that the use of AR for command, control, and supervision can improve human-robot team collaboration, robustness, and trust.
