This paper presents a study on COVID-19 vaccine misinformation in three middle-income countries: Brazil, Indonesia, and Nigeria. It introduces a multilingual dataset of such misinformation, consisting of annotated tweets. The paper also presents a system for detecting this misinformation, which could be useful for epidemic surveillance. It highlights the relevance of studying vaccine misinformation in middle-income countries, as they make up a significant portion of the world’s population and are often the sites of rampant misinformation due to slower vaccine rollouts. The study found a positive association between the number of new COVID-19 cases and misinformation rates.
