The study presents a mobile manipulation system consisting of a custom robot platform and key algorithms for perception and planning. The system was tested in a real-world grocery shopping scenario, and performance metrics were collected over multiple field tests. The aim was to ground robotics research in real-world needs and challenges, to guide research efforts and improve system performance. The authors call for more system-level testing in real-world environments to identify challenges and advance the field of robotics.
