This research discusses the challenge of diagnosing depression, a major global health issue. Many patients turn to social media platforms like Reddit to share their experiences and seek advice due to fear of stigmatization. The study proposes a new approach for diagnosing depression severity using text from Reddit. It involves a labeling technique to categorize the text and the use of a fine-tuned Longformer model. The performance of this model is compared with baseline models and it outperforms them in both English and Luganda languages. This research could enhance the diagnostic process of depression severity.
