LGBTQ+ individuals are increasingly turning to chatbots powered by large language models (LLMs) for mental health support. This study interviewed 18 LGBTQ+ and 13 non-LGBTQ+ participants about their experiences. While LLMs offer prompt support, they fall short in understanding LGBTQ-specific challenges. The study calls on future researchers to look beyond technical refinements and advocate for strategies that counteract societal biases against the LGBTQ+ community.
