The article presents a new Objective Intelligibility Measure (OIM), called the Gammachirp Envelope Similarity Index (GESI), that predicts the speech intelligibility (SI) of simulated hearing loss (HL) sounds for normal hearing (NH) listeners. The study highlights GESI’s unique ability to incorporate an individual participant’s listening condition into the SI prediction. The researchers conducted SI experiments on male and female speech sounds and compared GESI’s performance to other conventional OIMs. GESI outperformed all other OIMs in predicting SI, even with the use of simulated HL sounds.
