GhostWriter is an AI-powered environment that personalizes the writing process. It uses large language models (LLMs) to learn the user’s writing style as they write, while also allowing for explicit teaching moments through manual style edits and annotations. The system was tested with 18 participants who used GhostWriter for two different writing tasks. The study found that GhostWriter helps users craft personalized text and provides multiple ways to control the system’s writing style. The study offers insights into people’s relationships with AI-assisted writing and gives design recommendations for future work.
