The paper presents the Hide and Seek Virtual Reality System (HSVRS), a VR-based system designed to improve the abnormal eye gaze patterns often observed in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The system allows ASD children to play a hide-and-seek game with a virtual avatar, customizable in appearance and voice to resemble someone familiar to the child. A pilot study conducted with 24 participants demonstrated the potential of HSVRS as a supplementary intervention for ASD. The system’s effectiveness was assessed through subjective questionnaires filled by parents and objective eye gaze data. The results showed improved performance in the VR-assisted intervention group compared to the control group.
