The article explores the topic of inclusion in the field of virtual reality (VR), a concept that has not been extensively researched. Inclusion, in this context, refers to the active involvement of various groups in the adoption, use, design, and development of VR. The authors analyze existing literature on the subject, categorizing the research based on target group (ability, gender, and age), with a particular focus on Indigenous Peoples. They identify a series of generic and specific barriers and research gaps, providing suggestions for future research directions. The authors argue that the needs, interests, and concerns of different groups have often been overlooked in technology development, leading to products that are not inclusive.
