The study introduces InstructERC, a new approach to emotion recognition in dialogue (ERC) that shifts from a discriminative framework to a generative one using Large Language Models (LLMs). This novel method integrates multi-granularity dialogue supervision information and introduces two additional emotion alignment tasks. This approach has shown to outperform all previous models on three commonly used ERC datasets. The new model offers empirical guidance for practical application scenarios.
