The study explores the role of humour in human-robot interaction (HRI), particularly its potential to build trust. An experiment was conducted with 40 participants, divided into humour and no-humour conditions, to see if they were more inclined to accept a robot’s suggestions in a Three-card Monte game, used as a measure of trust. Although no significant effect of humour was found, the study revealed several qualitative observations, such as participants interacting effectively with the robot regardless of the humour condition. The research provides insights into trust-building mechanisms in HRI and highlights the need for further exploration of the impact of humour.
