The research focuses on using motion primitives to improve energy-efficient path planning in wind energy-harvesting fixed-wing aircraft. Motion primitives, defined as a pre-calculated set of motions, replace a traditional continuous action space, reducing algorithm run time but at a cost of solution quality. The study is significant for small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) that have limited energy sources and space. The proposed solution could help extend the endurance of these aircraft by maximizing the usage of wind fields while moving towards the goal region.
