TableGPT, a unified framework, is introduced in this paper to revolutionize the way we interact with and analyze tabular data. By enabling large language models (LLMs) to understand and operate on tables using external functional commands, TableGPT is designed to facilitate seamless interaction with tables. It provides various functionalities including question answering, data manipulation, visualization, analysis report generation, and automated prediction. The novel concept of global tabular representations, a key element of TableGPT, empowers LLMs to gain comprehensive understanding of entire tables. Not relying on external APIs, TableGPT supports efficient data processing, query rejection, and private deployment, thereby enhancing data privacy and adaptability to specific use cases.
