This research dives deep into large-scale phishing campaigns aimed at Meta’s users. It offers a dual perspective on the technical mechanics and human elements involved. The study analyses data from over 25,000 victims worldwide to highlight the nuances of these campaigns, from the techniques deployed by the attackers to the sentiments and behaviours of those who were targeted. The research uses advanced computational techniques, including natural language processing and machine learning, to gain insights into the psyche of victims and the evolving tactics of phishers. Findings reveal poor password choices by victims and persistence in revictimisation. Correlations regarding demographics, timing, sentiment, emotion, and tone of the victims’ responses are also revealed.
