Global disruptions have exposed vulnerabilities in traditional supply chains, leading to a push for more resilient alternatives. Autonomous Supply Chains (ASCs) could be a solution, providing increased visibility, flexibility, and resilience. The paper presents a formal definition of ASCs, their characteristics, and auxiliary concepts. A conceptual framework called the MIISI model is proposed. A case study on the meat supply chain demonstrates an initial ASC implementation based on this model. The paper also introduces a seven-level supply chain autonomy reference model, showing a path to achieving full supply chain autonomy.
