This research investigates the negative impacts and emotions users experience from using short video platforms, and how these emotions affect their intention to continue using these platforms. The study uses flow theory and illusion of control theory to construct a research hypothesis model and identifies six influencing factors. The results show that users’ use of short video platforms can elicit negative emotions that affect their intention to continue using such platforms. This study broadens the scope of research on short videos and enriches the study of negative emotions on the intention to continue using human-computer interaction software. It also introduces illusion of control theory into the field of human-computer interaction for the first time, expanding the application scenarios of this theory.
