The article introduces the Virtual Avatar Library for Inclusion and Diversity (VALID), a new 3D avatar library to advance racial diversity and inclusion. As the use of immersive technologies increases, virtual avatars take on a significant role in social computing. However, the representation of races in current avatar libraries is limited, and the VALID library aims to address this issue. The library includes 210 fully rigged avatars, and each avatar’s perceived race and gender have been statistically validated through an online study. The study also found that avatars of certain races were more accurately identified by participants of the same race.
