The article discusses a new design concept, ‘Volume Transfer’, for fabric-based pneumatic exosuits. These exosuits are a popular research topic due to their lighter and softer structure compared to traditional exoskeletons. The ‘Volume Transfer’ concept involves transferring the volume of pneumatic actuators beyond the garment’s profile to the inside, improving the wearability of the exosuit by making it more comfortable and less noticeable. A prototype exosuit for knee extension assistance was developed to verify this concept and showed promising results. The authors suggest that this concept could be widely used in future exosuit designs to improve wearability.
