The article discusses a new cryptosystem called AgEID for enhancing the security of FPGA-based bitstream for Intellectual Property cores in cloud environments. The system uses key aggregation to encrypt bitstreams, which can then be decrypted on any FPGA boards. The encryption is done in a way that the key can only be obtained on-board through individual decryption using the board’s private key. This method provides secure key provisioning and offers robust security assurances. The cryptosystem was evaluated on Zynq FPGAs and showed significant improvements over existing techniques in terms of resource usage, time, and energy.
