Inspired by nature’s resilience and adaptability, a morphing robot with multi-functional thruster-wheel appendages was designed. This robot can transform into different modes of locomotion such as a rover, quad-rotor, and mobile inverted pendulum. It can navigate complex terrains, demonstrating the concept of wing-assisted incline running (WAIR) observed in birds. The robot’s design and capabilities are unique compared to other multi-modal robots, offering the potential for unparalleled versatility and fault tolerance.
