The article discusses the development of a new haptic device, the Tracking Calibrated Robot (TCR), for use in virtual reality (VR) scenarios. TCR provides haptic feedback by utilizing a collaborative robot that renders haptic contact in the real world as the user interacts with a virtual object, enhancing the immersive VR experience. This approach offers several advantages over existing passive haptic feedback methods, including greater flexibility in emulating various scenes, simulating interactions with dynamic objects, and simulating different surface curvatures. The TCR is seen as an effective tool in conveying discriminative shape information.
