This research investigates the usage of large language model (LLM) based chatbots by LGBTQ+ individuals for mental health support. It includes interviews with both LGBTQ+ and non-LGBTQ+ participants about their experiences. The study finds that while these chatbots offer prompt support, they often fail to understand the specific challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community. The researchers suggest that beyond technical improvements, future work should focus on strategies that confront societal biases affecting the LGBTQ+ community.
