The study analyzed Instagram direct messages from 173 youth (86 LGBTQ+). It compared online experiences and mental health outcomes of LGBTQ+ and heterosexual youth. The results showed that LGBTQ+ youth had more high-risk online interactions and poorer mental health. The study highlights the need for tailored online safety and supportive online environments for LGBTQ+ youth.
