The article presents a novel approach for Human-Robot Interaction (HRI), using direct motion-based communication. The communication is enabled through four distinct gestures, two handshakes (formal and informal) and two letters (W and S). A user study with 16 participants showed that the four different gestures could be distinguished with close to 100% accuracy. The research suggests that motion-based interaction can simplify the communication with robots, eliminating the need for additional hardware.
