The article presents a study investigating the impact of AI-generated ideas on human creativity and idea diversity. Over 800 participants from more than 40 countries were exposed to ideas generated by ChatGPT or previous participants and then asked to brainstorm their own ideas. The study found that high exposure to AI ideas did not affect individual creativity but increased the diversity of collective ideas. Furthermore, it was found that self-reported creative individuals were less influenced by knowing an idea was AI-generated, and participants were more likely to adopt AI ideas for difficult tasks. The findings suggest that introducing AI ideas into society may increase collective diversity without impacting individual creativity.
