This academic article focuses on a new system called PhishReplicant, designed to detect ‘generated squatting domains’ (GSDs), which are domain names created by attackers to trick users into visiting phishing sites. Traditional methods of domain squatting include using brand names and slight variations of legitimate domains. However, recent techniques are more intricate and harder to detect, requiring a new approach. PhishReplicant works by analyzing the linguistic similarity of domain names and has shown to outperform existing systems in detection accuracy.
