The article discusses a study on PromptInfuser, a Figma plugin developed to bridge the gap between AI functionality and UI design. By allowing designers to create semi-functional mockups connected to the inputs and outputs of prompts, PromptInfuser was found to enhance the prototyping process, improve communication of product ideas, and help anticipate UI issues and technical constraints. The study involved 14 designers and compared the use of PromptInfuser to their existing AI-prototyping workflow. The tool was perceived as more efficient and helpful, encouraging iteration and helping identify incompatibilities. The findings are aimed at informing future systems for prototyping AI applications.
