The paper ‘SunBlock: Cloudless Protection for IoT Systems’ addresses the increasing security threats and privacy risks associated with the rise of Internet of Things (IoT) devices in homes. Traditional IoT protection solutions are often cloud-based and may share consumer data with unknown third parties, posing potential risks. The authors propose a local solution for threat detection on a home router using AI tools and traffic-filtering algorithms. This solution, according to their results, effectively detects risks and protects a typical home IoT network, equaling or outperforming existing popular solutions, without any effects on benign IoT functionality, and without relying on cloud services and third parties.
