This article discusses the concept of Autonomous Supply Chains (ASCs), which are being considered as a more resilient alternative to traditional supply chains. The authors present a formal definition of ASCs, their defining characteristics and auxiliary concepts. They propose a MIISI model (a layered conceptual framework), and a seven-level supply chain autonomy reference model. The paper also includes a case study about the meat supply chain to illustrate the application of this conceptual model. The authors emphasize the need for continued exploration and research in this emerging domain.
