Despite numerous countermeasures, people continue to fall victim to phishing emails. This article presents an empirical study conducted to understand the decision-making process when responding to emails. The study reveals different elements that influence email response decisions and developed a theoretical model to explain this behavior. The findings provide insights into the susceptibility to phishing due to email response decision-making and discuss the implications for those involved in anti-phishing training and education.
